33. Madrone before the Storm

I have been experimenting recently with layering watercolors, with an eye to use the watercolor layer as a base onto which I would apply pastels. I did this piece on a train trip, working from a photograph I’d taken the previous summer on Orcas Island, Washington. Here I try to capture the layers of limbs and leaves, and how light filters through the various layers of the trees. In addition, I’m trying to capture the sway of the trees in the wind.
